District 7 is proud to announce that the new Drayton Mills Elementary School has been awarded a rating of one Green Globe through the Green Building Initiative’s internationally recognized rating assessment and certification program. The Green Globe ranking recognizes projects that; advance sustainable design, conserve energy, reduce water consumption and promote responsible use of materials. Drayton Mills Elementary School was designed by the architectural firm of McMillan Pazdan Smith and will officially open on Monday, August 20.
DMES Principal, Thomas Webster says the state-of-the-art building will be an exciting learning environment for children and will support the school’s curricular emphasis on project-based learning through innovative and creative collaboration spaces. In addition to being energy efficient, environmentally friendly and wired for the most advanced school technology – the facility offers a long list of unique amenities from an abundance of natural lighting to close proximity to the city’s scenic walking trail.
Designed for 800 students, the land for Drayton Mills was donated to District 7 by Pacolet Milliken Enterprises, and will be the centerpiece of a rapidly transforming Drayton community. New lots in the area are being cleared by Montgomery Development, for the first of hundreds of residential units envisioned in a master plan to revitalize the once-bustling mill village just beyond Spartanburg city limits.
